Position Summary:

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with strong technical tax expertise and proven leadership capabilities to join our growing accounting firm. This role is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, mentoring team members, and contributing to the strategic growth of a collaborative, client-focused practice.

The Senior Tax Accountant will oversee complex individual and business tax engagements, provide tax planning and advisory services, review work prepared by staff accountants, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients ranging from high-net-worth individuals to small and mid-sized businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance & Planning

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for:
    • Individuals (1040)
    • Partnerships (1065)
    • S Corporations (1120-S)
    • C Corporations (1120)
    • Trusts and Estates (1041)
  • Perform tax research and stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and develop proactive tax planning strategies for clients.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, audits, and compliance issues.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax engagements.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of individual and business clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through exceptional service and proactive communication.
  • Advise business owners on tax implications related to growth, succession planning, entity selection, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in client meetings and present tax strategies in a clear and practical manner.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Review and provide constructive feedback on work prepared by junior staff.
  • Train, mentor, and develop staff accountants and tax associates.
  • Assist with workflow management and resource allocation during busy seasons.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance team environment.
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding efforts as needed.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline tax processes.
  • Assist in implementing best practices and leveraging tax technology solutions.
  • Contribute to the firm's strategic initiatives and growth objectives.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation preferred or actively pursuing.
  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience.
  • Strong knowledge of individual, corporate, partnership, and state taxation.
  • Experience reviewing tax returns and supervising staff.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Preferred

  • CPA license or persuing one
  • Experience working in a small or mid-sized public accounting firm.
  • Prior client advisory and tax planning experience.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience within a tax practice.
